If this is something you’re not sure about, we’re here to help. Read on to find out more about our window vents and what we’ve done to make the installation a breeze.

Can you Install Trickle Vents yourself?

In some cases, trickle vents are part of the window fixture, meaning they are fused to the window frame. This is most common with newer UPVC windows; older windows won’t often have trickle vents.

Others can be drilled into the UPVC or wood at a later date. This can be done yourself, but it’s a tricky process even if you have the tools available.

Our ventilation systems can be fitted with no drilling necessary, as the modules slot onto the window itself. Here’s how it works:

How to Install Trickle Vents

When you unpack your AirBox ECO, you’ll find 3 main parts:

  • Outer Visor
  • Filter Element
  • Inlet Valve

There will also be 6 fasteners, and 6 screws. No there isn’t anything missing, that’s all you need to start letting more clean air into your home, even when the window is closed.

For a quick and easy guide for installing trickle vents, check out the video above.

If you aren’t able to follow the video, or would prefer written instructions, here’s all the steps. First, here’s everything you’ll need:

  • Ladder or Platform (a sturdy table or chair will do as long as you’re careful)
  • Tape Measure
  • Craft Knife
  • Screwdriver

Step One – Install the Visor

The visor is the part of your trickle vents that will allow in air from the outside when the window is closed. It is therefore installed onto the window frame.

Open the window as wide as possible to give you the most room to work with. We recommend using a ladder or sturdy table to sit or kneel on if you can’t reach it; although the process is fast, you need to be careful when working on an open window.

The visor should be installed in the centre of the window frame, on the top part. Use a tape measure or ruler to mark out the centre, which you can then line up the central screw hole on the visor.

Next, trim the seal on your windows. This will be a rubber material than creates a seal between the window and the frame. Your craft knife will handle this easily, cut out a section in the centre the same size as the visor.

Then you can install the first three fasteners, so they line up with the screw holes. Take your time to line them up properly or your trickle vent will be slightly loose.

To attach the visor, peel off the protective plastic and line it up with the fasteners. Then add three screws tightly and you’re ready for step two.

Step Two – Install the Filter Element

The filter element slots neatly into the visor, no screws necessary. That’s it for step two (we told you it was a quick process!).

Step Three – Fasten the Valve

For the final step, you need to locate the point on the window directly opposite the visor. The valve is the same width as the visor, so it should be nice and easy to measure.

Once again, trim the seal so that the valve can attach firmly to the top of the window. Then attach the final 3 fasteners.

Remove the protective film from the underside of the valve and line it up with the fasteners. Then you can add your screws. Remember that you want the screws to be facing OUT of the window, not into the room.

Once this is completed, close the window and you’ll immediately notice that a small amount of air is making its way through the top of your window. It may seem like a tiny change, but it’s all you need to do to keep the room fresh and well-ventilated.

Quick Trickle Vent Installation

Even if you take your time to get the job done properly, installing our AirBox products is fast and simple. Installing trickle vents in every room of your home might seem like a daunting task, but once you’ve done one, you’ll see how easy it is, and the rest can be done during a free afternoon. You’ll even have time for a tea break!

Some trickle vent providers have made their products needlessly complicated, so that professional installation is your only option. We know that simplicity is key, and our seemingly simple models are more effective than their more complicated counterparts. That’s because we’ve spent years refining our designs, while still ensuring that anyone can fit them.
